Dirty Thoughts (Mechanics of Love #1)

Dirty Thoughts (Mechanics of Love #1) By Megan Erickson

This book is a perfect example of “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover” If you were to read this book thinking it was gritty and erotic, then you’re in for quite a surprise.

I love books that are based on second chances and was happy when I came across this book.

The heroine and the hero had a serious relationship in high school, it was so serious that there were talks about marriage and children in the future. The heroine’s family is rich and looks down on their relationship. One day the hero and the heroine’s brother had an altercation which led the heroine to choose between her brother or the hero; but if she picks the hero he would be going to jail. The heroine picks her family and ends up breaking up with the hero. She leaves for college and builds a new life for herself, hardly ever returning to her hometown.

Fast forward years later, the hero is working with his father and brothers in their family owned mechanic shop, when the heroine walks in and the hero could not take his eyes off her and his thoughts. Hence, the name of the book. But over the years the hero had harden his heart and no longer wants a wife and kids, which the heroine wants someday, which leaves them at a conundrum and the hero pushes her away.

I love that you can feel the emotions that both the hero and the heroine are feeling since it was written in dual point of view.

My heart breaks for the heroine, so many years later and she is still in love with the hero as if it was just yesterday. When you read the book, you’ll get to understand the hero’s perspective on why he does not want to be with her but honestly  speaking it just shows how much of a family man he really is. But I hated that he had the heroine stringing on like a puppet  when it came to being with him.

The hero was given a very harsh reality in life and was forced to grow up faster than any child should. If I had a mother like her I don’t think I would be as forgiving as he was towards her, especially after a brother I didn’t know about shows up at my door with fear for his life.

I love that the heroine was different from her family and that money did not change her. I hated her brother and was happy how he ended up at the ending. I also liked that the heroine stood up for herself when it came to her family.

If you want to read a second chance book that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions then this is the book for you.
